Objective

The aim of investigation was to assess the phenology of airborne pollen grains and fungi sporomorphs and to make quantitative and qualitative analysis of material obtained. The data obtained with the use of volumetric method were compared with those obtained with the use of gravimetric method.

Material and Methods

The ivestigations were carried out by means of the volumetric method with the use of Burkard device. Pollen counts used in analysis were pollen numbers per 1 m3. Simultaneously, the studies with the use of gravimetric methods were also carried out.

Results

A total of 54 taxa were determined, including 3 types of fungal spores. 23 taxa occurred sporadically and 28 were found continuously in pollen fall (Table 1).

Conclusions

  1. Distinct four periods in the occurrence of airborne pollen fall may be distinguished: early-spring, late-spring, summer, and autumn.
  2. There are two types of pollen grains in the air: occuring continuously and sporadically.
  3. The duration of pollen fall for particular taxa is different and lasts from 1 to 16 weeks.
  4. The higest percentage in the sum of pollen has Pinus and in the sum of sporomorphs - Cladosporium.
  5. The highest number of pollen grains was found in May and June, and of fungal sporomorphs of Cladosporium type - in July.
