Professor Sabina Chyrek-Borowska (28 March 1929 ? 11 March 2011), a distinguished Polish allergist.

Between 1970 and 1999, she served as the Head of the Department of Allergology and Internal Diseases at the Medical University in Bialystok. She was among the initiators of the official recognition of allergology as a board-certified medical specialty in Poland (1973).

She also was founding member of the Polish Society of Allergology (1982), in whose Executive Committee she served relevant functions for many years. Her merits in this field were awarded with the Society?s Honorary Membership. She was also the first Polish member of the EAACI Executive Committee.

Thanks to her initiative, one of the first EAACI?s Summer Allergy Schools took place in Poland (Bialystok, 20-24 August 1999). The second EAACI Allergy School in Poland that took place in Krakow exactly 12 years later (18-21 August 2011) was dedicated to her memory.

Next to more than 200 scientific papers, Professor Chyrek-Borowska edited the legendary Polish textbook ?Pharmacotherapy of Allergic Diseases? (three editions: 1989, 1993, and 1998).
